Last night I arrived "home" from India after two and a half days of almost non-stop travel. I'm a little tired, undoubtedly jet-lagged, and my ears have not yet fully popped, but it is so excellent to be back with Mike that all that pales into the insignificance that it is.
I fully intend to fill you all in on the trip in due time, just not this evening. Suffice it to say, for now, that it was wonderful, interesting, thought-provoking, inspirational, different from everything else in the world, and that I am deeply grateful for having had the opportunity to have made the trip. India is, to my eyes, a struggling nation. Its people are generally generous and kind, its culture is quite a mixed bag- ancient slapped up against modern, poverty against riches, ignorance against enlightenment, beauty against squalor. The Dera is another world within the confines of its Indian context, and it will be difficult to describe and do it any justice.
I did not take photos - I did not take the camera, for that matter. Whatever I report will be in my words, from my eyes, my heart, and my mind. I hope that this will be adequate to the job!
Good night for now, count your blessings, hold your loved-ones tight, and be the best person you know to be. With love to you all.
HI, Molly! Wonderful to hear that your back, tired and inspired, once again with Mike. I can't wait to hear all about it. I'll be following your blog more now that I feel like I've got about 4 hours a week free time! And I can't wait to see you back in Eugene. I've been talking to Judith about a date for our annual party, and she mentioned the 19th, but I fly to Mexico really early that morning, so neither the 18th or 19th will work for me. Would Friday the 17th work, perhaps beginning late afternoon. Let me know you're tentative calendar when you get the time, and I'll see what J & J are up to. I really miss y'all! When you return, we'll have to share Italy/Mexico photos and have a good visit. Love, Rebecca
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to have you back in my studio...with me in spirit. I enjoy reading your reports, and look forward to "hearing" your reflections on India.
